Try cleaning the bottom screen and air intake filter on your water heater before you clean or replace the thermocouple flame sen.

The pilot light in your hot water heater does more than simply ignite the gas. Once there is a need for heating or call from a thermostat a gas control valve releases the gas into the main burner and the pilot light ignites the gas. Expect more relighting a pilot light on a ge water heater. If the pilot doesn t relight if it goes out right after lighting or if the pilot light keeps going out by far the most common.

When the water heater pilot light goes out first try relighting it following the directions on the water heater label. Without it the water heater won t be able to maintain internal temperatures allowing the water to cool off.
